| Heejeong has been a very valuable assistant in our dealings with Korean vendors. Initially, I was convinced that a consultant would not be necessary as most Korean companies have English websites that lead anyone to believe that doing business in English is a normal everyday occurrence. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In one instance, I had communicated via e-mail with an engineer in Korea regarding the purchase of dispenser valves for a product we were developing. One of the questions I had asked of him was whether the valves could be designed in our system in a vertical or horizontal position. His reply was that it did not matter. After building our first proto-types, we discovered a problem with just a few of the valves leaking. Since there were going to be numerous questions and discussions regarding this, I asked Heejeong to be our primary contact. What she was able to determine was that it did make a difference as to how they were installed and that our design was incorrect. This lack of communication cost us only several thousand dollars but could have been disastrous had the problem not shown itself, and we started mass production of a product with a design flaw. Heejeong has also demonstrated her ability to be a good negotiator. She has sourced many components for us and does not hesitate to work with our vendors in efforts to obtain better pricing. Her ability to deal with Korean businessmen is unique in the Korean culture, but is a testimony to her professionalism. She earns their respect.
